Basketball Survey!

After I reviewed the results of my survey on Survey Monkey I was very surprised at the results that I had found. I had 16 people answer and out of those people they all had some interesting opinions. Out of the 16 people only 10 people liked basketball the others either said no or had no opinion. My second question was half played basketball and half did not play basketball. When I got to the last few questions that had to do with basketball teams and coaches it started to show who really played basketball and understood basketball and who didn’t, because half and half would answer the right answer and the rest would say they do not watch basketball. I found this survey very interesting, I learned you really get to know what the public thinks about your obsession and if any of them have it. This survey helps to show me that either I have asked the wrong people about the sport or no one really has my obsession. I know there are people out there I just have to find the right crowd of people to survey. If I had asked all sports players I believe that I would get different results and find people who are just obsessed with basketball as me.

Are You as Obsessed as The Texas A&M Coach?

My obsession is with basketball, and I have found some one out there that is just as obsessed with the great sport as I am, he is the head coach at Texas A & M Coach Gillispie. After reading the article in The New York Times, Coach’s ‘Unhealthy’ Obsession Has Led to Success at Texas A&M by Pete Thamel I learned that this is not only noticeable by me but by the world. In the article Pete talks about Coach Gillispie family life, and how he is not married to a women but married to his job, and that he sleeps, eats, and coaches basketball. The article goes on to mention the dedication to his job has paid off, in the sense that he has won championships, gone to the sweet 16 for most of his years there, and that his coaching method is a legend and well known on campus. He is a great coach, keeps his players in line, and as some may think he has a unhealthy obsession, he sees it as his job to give his players the best opportunity possible.
Pete Thamel hit the nail on the head talking about how obsessed coaches at the Division 1 college level are, and how they will do any thing to get their players to the greatnesses they need to be at to win championships. This article goes to show that this is a problem for many people that once you become obsessed with this sport you will lose your family along the way because you have no time for others, you only think about the sport and how you can get better everyday. This is a worldwide obsession that not only players have but the coaches have too, you have to think the best to be the best.

The Game of a Lifetime

It was a cold winter day in the Chicago area as the fans pile into the arena for the basketball game. Cars are honking, people are yelling, ticket man asking for tickets to see the top two players play against each other. This is a once in a lifetime experience as the people find there cold seat the game begins. Q and Cully meet for the jump ball, and that is when it all starts. Beats of sweat role down their faces, fear and anger in their eyes, and the puzzling question who is better?  The ref throws the ball up and at that moment they looked at each other then like a kite the ball flies across the court being picked up my Q’s team. Q comes down the court pounding the ball into the floor, confident he would score, and Cully the only soul in the paint gets dunked on. Crowd gets off their seats screaming, “you can not stop him” over and over. As the game winds down the fans turn their heads to the score broad to see Q is down by 2 points with 10 second to go, whistle blows, time out. Here Q’s team devises a play to get a three point shot, the shot that will close the game forever who is the best. Players run back onto the floor, crowd going wide, on their feet jumping around as the ball is thrown in. Q moves, loses his defense and runs for a open shot. Four, three, two, one he shots and it goes in a three point shot to win the game. Q’s team wins, Cully was defeated and to throw in a twist Q was the younger brother, guess what they say is true older is not always better.

How Can I Breathe Without Basketball?

Game day jersey always bring the memories back.
As I grab the cold silver handle to the gym door I hear the fans screaming and the bleachers bouncing, the fresh smell of cooked popcorn fills the air. I hear a loud boom boom boom, realizing that it was my heart pounding in anticipation for the game. The taste of salt passes by my lips, the taste of determination and competitive edge to dominate the next 32 minutes of that first basketball game of the year.
Basketball is like air, I need it to live, that is why my obsession is with basketball, not only the sport but the life style that comes with playing the sport. Basketball is a tattoo permanently embedded on my heart, the sport that has opened my eyes to opportunities that every kid would kill for, and the experience of a lifetime. Life is a basketball game, you win some and you lose some but you never quit trying. Basketball is a obsession that not only I have but my family has also, the sport that I grew up with is the sport that I become to love and need in my life. The love for the game has taught me many life lessons, and it is only naturally to be obsessed with the one that that motivated you to be the best person you can be. The life of a basketball player is not always easy, but it does have its perks, the feeling that some one knows who you are is one of the best feelings in the world that basketball has provided for me.
